Over the past couple of decades, technology has grown at an
exponential rate, and it is a rate that has taken the world by surprise. Who
would have thought that we humans as a “species” would come this far in such a
short amount of time, to the point where we are witnessing such great
inventions like a “billboard that produces fresh drinking-water.”
Here is a list of 5 great invention ideas that I feel will
help shape a better future. Some of them may be in their early stages of
development, but they have definitely shown to “work” at the very least.
The Hendo Hover-board
In time, we can see how much this product can have an
impact on society, sparking interest within the youth. It can be used as a new
form of transportation. Or it can even be developed into a sport. The hovering
technology may even be implemented in “footwear” or “vehicles.”
The Billboard that Produces
Fresh Drinking-water
Now this is something that looks like it comes straight out
of a science-fiction film. Or maybe some would even classify it as “too strange
for fiction.” However, there’s nothing fictional about this outstanding
innovation made by students of Peru’s University of Engineering &
Technology (UTEC).
This billboard uses Peru’s warm humidity and condenses it
into clean drinking water! The population of Lima, Peru live in a desert-like
area where it almost never rains, and people have to take water from wells, which
is usually dirty. However, this billboard has been very popular among the
citizens of Lima, and it’s only a matter of time when this billboard goes into
more and more towns of Peru.
Mouth-guard that can detect
concussions from the sidelines
One of the worst things about concussions is that it’s hard
to detect when someone has experienced one on the spot. Concussions are usually
confirmed after several tests after the game. Many players have become injured
because they continued playing after experiencing a concussion, and the worst
part is that they don’t even realize that they’ve just had a concussion.
The solution is the “Mamori mouth-guard,” an electronic
mouth-guard that can detect the force that a player has taken with the help of
a computer app and impact sensors. This can definitely help prevent further
injuries and give players the immediate help they need.
The 3D Printer
Now, if you haven’t heard about 3D-printing, some would
describe it as “the next industrial revolution.” It really is that big of a
deal. 3D printers can print physical 3D objects that are designed on a computer
using a CAD (Computer Aided Design).
3D printers have also made their way into the “health
sciences” department as well. Scientists have gone as far as making edible food
with 3D printers. Research is also going into printing human “organs” too. Just
think of the possibilities! Someone who has previously lost a kidney can
recover that kidney by cloning one with a 3D printer.
Titan Arm
The titan arm was developed by a group of students from the
University of Pennsylvania. This bionic arm is an exoskeleton that is attached
to someone’s real arm, and is used to aid heavy lifting. The arm itself can
help someone easily lift an extra 40 pounds.
This product is definitely showing promise because it works
well, and it can be applied to many things such as construction-work,
heavy-lifting jobs, firefighter-work, etc.
So these are 5 recent inventions that I feel will
definitely serve a purpose in the near future. They’re not in any particular
order, because I think they’re all outstanding innovations. What are some
inventions that haven’t made this list that you think will help shape a better
future for humans?
